2 Year Old Program

At this stage, walking is replacing toddling and talking is replacing babbling.  Your wonderful two year is embarking on a world of adventure.  They can climb and  run, and will test all physical limits.  By the time they are 3, caregivers will endeavor to have them catch a large ball, pedal a tricycle, and jump with both feet off the floor.  They may also begin to use scissors, string beads, and use their fine motor skills to draw and create.

In the beginning of this year, most at this age will be strong willed, ready to do things on their own, and are slightly bossy.  Our caregivers will work closely with each child to help them realize their place. They will learn to work together on things as well as respect others.

The A Beka Nursery Curriculum will be used for this age of development.  This curriculum is full of hands on activities such as arts and crafts, finger plays, and games.  Your 2 year old will learn poems and songs with motions and they will daily interact with Button Bear and Amber Lamb. These are puppets that will come to life during their daily story times.  In this curriculum, your 2 year old will learn to count from 1 – 25, recognize number 1 – 10, and the colors red, yellow, green, and blue.  Coloring, painting, gluing will be part of developing their manual skills, while the stories, plays, and music will aid in the development of comprehension, language, and thinking skills.

A Beka has a special language development program which focuses on the use of pictures and stories to spark your child’s interest in the world around him.  Phonics will be taught to help your child begin to recognize letters and their sounds to better prepare them for reading at age 4.  They will also play in the various learning centers throughout the day.  In these centers, they will experience hands on how to use their imagination in dress up or looking at wonderful books from the book shelves, and they will learn practical living skills in the kitchen and tool center.
